My Credentials

I have my Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in voice from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina (a great school, and an all women’s college at that... yes, I went to an “all-girls school” and LOVED it!)

What does this degree mean? I was taught how to teach music! I had to learn how to play every instrument in a symphony orchestra and band. That includes guitar, cello, drums, bass, violin, trumpet, flute... I could go on and on, but you get the idea! I am able to teach any music class K-12 (general music, theory, band, choir, and individual lessons for any instrument including voice).

What have I done with this? I have my teaching credentials in the states of North Carolina and California. I taught private voice and piano lessons for 11 years and I was able to teach in the public school system until Kyle and I started our family.

My goal is to use these tools that I have learned to help children use music as an outlet to express themselves. I want my students to have a great time as they learn. I don't want to put too much stress on them, to the point where they are not enjoying themselves. When the child shuts down, they stop learning. Granted, I do have high expectations... I just go about them in a more light-hearted way. I hope to help build life-long supporters of music who may not grow up to be concert musicians, but will always be able to understand, appreciate, and love music!
